Arthur William Conway (2.10.1875-11.03.1950) was an Irish physicist and mathematician, a member of the Royal Irish Academy and its president. He was born in Wexford. He studied at the universities of Dublin and Oxford. In 1901—40 he was professor at the University of Dublin, and in 1940 — 47 its president.
His main research was in the fields of mathematical physics, spectroscopy and atomic physics. He put forward an idea about the origin of spectral series (Conway's electromagnetic hypothesis). He worked on a model of the atom and tried to reconcile quantum ideas with classical ones.
