Dimov, Gennady Ivanovich (born 27.12.1927) is a Soviet experimental physicist.
A corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1981). Born in the village of Kudara, Buryat ASSR. Graduated from the Tomsk Polytechnic Institute (1951), where he worked. From 1960 he has been head of a laboratory at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
His research concerned controlled thermonuclear fusion and the physics and engineering of accelerators. He laid the foundations for producing intense high-energy atomic beams for sustaining and heating the plasma in thermonuclear machines. He developed a number of precision atomic injectors for the diagnostics of high-temperature plasma. He proposed a new scheme for confining plasma in open thermonuclear systems — the ambipolar trap. In the field of proton accelerators he developed the charge-exchange method of injection and obtained a high-intensity proton beam compensated by electrons.
