Mikhail Alexandrovich Elyashevich (born 21.08.1908) is a Soviet physicist and an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR (1956). He was born in Munich. He graduated from Leningrad University (1930). In 1931—35 he worked at the Institute of Chemical Physics of the USSR Academy of Sciences, in 1935—49 at the State Optical Institute, in 1946 — 51 at the Institute of Fine Mechanics
and Optics (Leningrad), in 1952 —56 at the Leningrad Pedagogical Institute,
in 1956-68 at the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR.
From 1968 he has been professor at the Byelorussian University
(Minsk).
His research has concerned theoretical spectroscopy, the physics of low-temperature plasma, the theory of the structure of matter and the history of quantum physics. He developed the foundations of the theory of the vibrational spectra of polyatomic molecules. He carried out a number of studies on the spectroscopy of the rare earths and on the spectroscopy of plasma and of high-temperature processes.
Lenin Prize (1966), USSR State Prizes (1949, 1950).
