Glagoleva-Arkadieva, Alexandra Andreyevna

Alexandra Andreyevna Glagoleva-Arkadieva (28.02.1884-30.10.1945) was a Soviet physicist and a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. She was the wife of V. K. Arkadiev. She was born in the village of Tovarkovo (now in Tula Region). She graduated from the Moscow Higher Courses for Women (1910). From 1918 she worked at Moscow University (professor from 1930). Her work concerned the study of short electromagnetic waves. She developed a new method of generating waves and in 1922 constructed a source of electromagnetic radiation (the mass radiator), obtaining in 1923 waves from 50 mm to 82 microns. This proved the existence of waves in a new spectral interval, bridging the gap between radio waves and infrared rays.
