Josephson, Brian David

Josephson, Brian David (born 4.01.1940) is an English physicist and a Fellow of the Royal Society (1970). Born in Cardiff. Graduated from the University of Cambridge (1960), where he works (professor from 1974). His work is in the field of tunnelling and superconductivity. In 1962 he predicted a new kind of tunnelling — Josephson tunnelling — and a number of effects connected with it (the stationary and non-stationary Josephson effects, the Josephson junction, Josephson radiation, Josephson plasma resonance and others). For predicting the effects named after him he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1973. The F. London Medal (1970). The D. Hughes Medal (1972) and others.
