Kariamanickam Srinivasa Krishnan (4.12.1898-13.06.1961) was an Indian physicist and a member of the Indian Academy of Sciences. In 1925 he received the degree of Doctor of Science at the University of Madras. In 1928 — 33 he worked at Dacca University, in 1933—42 he was professor at the University of Calcutta and in 1942—47 at the University of Allahabad, and in 1947 — 61 he was director of the National Physical Laboratory.
His research concerned spectroscopy, the physics of crystals, the physics of metals, physical optics, colloid optics, magneto-optics and magnetism. Together with C. Raman he discovered in 1927 the anisotropy of the diamagnetic susceptibility of benzene molecules and in 1928 the Raman scattering of light [561].
