Pál, Lénárd

Lénárd Pál (born 7.02.1925) is a Hungarian physicist, a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (1974). He was born in Dyem. He graduated from the University of Budapest (1949). Since 1953 he has worked at the Central Research Institute for Physics (director from 1970, director-general from 1974), and from 1961 he has also been professor at the University of Budapest. His research concerned magnetism, in particular new magnetic structures and phenomena in first-order magnetic phase transitions, solid-state physics, reactor physics and correlation measuring techniques. He was the first to formulate the equation for the function that determines the time, space and energy distribution of neutrons in nuclear reactors (the Pál — Bell equation). The L. Kossuth Prize (1965), the I. V. Kurchatov gold medal. President of the National Committee of Physicists. A foreign member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1976).
