Pavlovsky, Alexander Ivanovich

Alexander Ivanovich Pavlovsky (born 27. 06.1927) is a Soviet experimental physicist, a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1979). He was born in Zaporozhye. He graduated from the University of Kharkov (1950). His research was in the fields of neutron physics, pulse technology, the physics and technology of accelerators, the physics of high energy densities and quantum electronics. He carried out work on the creation of intense neutron sources, the measurement of nuclear-physics constants, and the creation of high-current pulsed cyclic and linear induction accelerators. He is one of the founders of a new field in the physics of high energy densities, magnetic cumulation. Under his direction the phenomenon of cumulation was studied and powerful pulsed energy sources were created on the basis of magnetic-cumulative generators, together with devices for generating superstrong pulsed magnetic fields. Hero of Socialist Labour. The Lenin Prize. The State Prize of the USSR.
