Perel, Vladimir Idelevich

Vladimir Idelevich Perel (born 24.08.1928) is a Soviet physicist and a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1981). He was born in Sverdlovsk. He graduated from Leningrad University (1950). From 1958 he has worked at the Leningrad Physico-Technical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences and from 1973 has been professor at the Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute. His work was in solid-state physics and quantum optics. Together with O. V. Konstantinov he predicted and experimentally detected helicons (1960). He discovered a new type of excitation in semiconductors — recombination waves. He constructed a theory of non-radiative recombination. His research also concerned the interference of atomic states in the processes of emission and absorption of light by gas atoms. USSR State Prize.
