Polarised light

AIM OF THE EXPERIMENT: To find out how polarised light travels.
MATERIALS: two pairs of polarising sunglasses.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the sunglasses really are polarising.

Put the sunglasses on.
Look at how the things around you appear.
Hold the second pair in front of your eyes.
Slowly turn the second pair with your hand, so that one of its lenses rotates in front of your right eye.
Watch the quality of the image as the glasses turn.
RESULTS: The sunglasses you are wearing take the glare off shiny things and change the shape of shadows. As you turn the polarising lens of the second pair in front of your eye, the image grows darker and at last disappears altogether.
WHY? A polarising lens has countless parallel lines drawn on it. Light vibrations in a plane parallel to the lines get through, and no other vibrations can.
