Sidorov, Veniamin Alexandrovich

Veniamin Alexandrovich Sidorov (born 19.10.1930) — a Soviet physicist, a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1968). Born in the village of Babarino, Vladimir Oblast. He graduated from Moscow University (1953) and worked at the Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy. From 1962 he has been head of a laboratory and deputy director of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences (Novosibirsk). His research concerned accelerator physics, elementary particle physics, quantum electrodynamics and the spectrometry of fast neutrons. Together with others he developed the colliding-beam method (Lenin Prize, 1967). He studied the applicability of the laws of quantum electrodynamics at small distances, double bremsstrahlung in colliding electron—electron beams, vector mesons, multihadron annihilation and the electroproduction of electron—positron pairs in colliding electron—positron beams.
