(from the French calibre — magnitude, size, template). Calibration of measures, a complex form of verification that consists in determining the errors or the corrections of a set of measures (for example, a set of weights) or of the various values of one multiple-valued measure (for example, a linear scale). Calibration is carried out by comparing the measures with one another in various combinations and then calculating the actual values of the measures, the basis for the calculation being the result of comparing one of the measures, or a combination of the measures making up the set, with a reference measure.
