White light, electromagnetic radiation of a complex spectral composition that produces in people with normal colour vision a sensation neutral in colour. White light is given by the scattered radiation of the Sun, and also by the radiation of opaque solid and liquid bodies heated to a high temperature. White light can be obtained by mixing the radiations of two complementary colours or three monochromatic radiations taken in a definite quantitative ratio (see Colour, Colorimetry).
