Akobir Adkhamovich Adkhamov (born 4.09.1928) is a Soviet physicist and an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Tajik SSR (1968). He was born in Samarkand. He graduated from Uzbek University (1949). In 1954—65 he was head of a department, dean and vice-rector of Tajik University, from 1965 director of the Physico-Technical Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the Tajik SSR, and from 1969 professor at Tajik University (Dushanbe). His research concerned the physics of liquids, molecular acoustics and the kinetic theory of gases and liquids. In 1953—64 he extended the kinetic theory of the propagation of ultrasonic waves in liquids and in inhomogeneous media and the theory of the resonance absorption of ultrasound in liquids; in 1965—70 the molecular theory of the viscoelastic properties of liquids; and in 1975—80 the theory of anharmonic vibrations in crystals with vacancies.
