Imanov, Latif Mukhtar oglu

Latif Mukhtar oglu Imanov (15.09.1922—12.03.1980) was a Soviet physicist and an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR (1976). He was born in Shusha. He graduated from Azerbaijan University (1944), where he taught from 1950. From 1944 he also worked at the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR (head of the section of radiophysics and spectroscopy from 1954). His main research concerned radiospectroscopy, in particular the study of the energy and structural characteristics of molecules and of the processes of molecular motion and interaction in condensed media. He established the existence of a single molecule (n-propanol) in five inequivalent rotameric states. He found dielectric criteria for the degree of local ordering in a class of aromatic compounds, for the presence of rotational isomers, for the compatibility of low- and high-molecular components, and for the range of concentrations in which the mechanical strengthening of a glassy system takes place. He constructed a model of the dynamic structure of acetic acid and of aqueous solutions of amino acids. Honoured Worker of Science of the Azerbaijan SSR (1979).
