Boris Mikhailovich Kozyrev (4.05.1905 —21.10.1979) was a Soviet physicist and a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1968). He was born in Ashkhabad. He graduated from Kazan University (1930), where he also worked. From 1947 he was head of a department at the Kazan Physico-Technical Institute.
His research was in the field of magnetic radiospectroscopy. By his studies of spin-lattice and spin-spin relaxation times he helped to establish the modern understanding of the kinetics of the magnetisation of paramagnetic media. He studied paramagnetic absorption in parallel fields. In 1947 he detected paramagnetic resonance in organic free radicals and in 1948 the influence of nuclear spin on the shape of electron paramagnetic resonance lines (together with S. A. Altshuler). He established (1957) the value of the nuclear spin of an isotope of iron.
Using EPR and paramagnetic relaxation he studied the structure of paramagnetic complexes in liquid solutions and short-range order in glasses and glass-ceramics.
