Larkin, Anatoly Ivanovich

Anatoly Ivanovich Larkin (born 14.10.1932) is a Soviet theoretical physicist and a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1979). He was born in Kolomna. He graduated from the Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (1956). In 1957—65 he worked at the Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy, from 1965 at the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and from 1972 he has also been professor at Moscow University. His work is in the field of the theory of superconductivity, the theory of phase transitions, nuclear physics and plasma theory. He predicted paraconductivity and worked out the theory of superconducting fluctuations, the theory of superconducting point contacts and the theory of critical currents in type II superconductors. In the theory of elementary particles he predicted spontaneous symmetry breaking.
