Mlodzeevsky, Anatoly Boleslavovich

Anatoly Boleslavovich Mlodzeevsky (10.04.1883-16.09.1959) was a Soviet physicist. He was born in Moscow. He graduated from Moscow University (1906), where he worked from 1917 (a professor from 1923). His work concerned mainly geometric thermodynamics and the history of physics. He studied the topological properties of phase diagrams, the shape of the thermodynamic-potential curve of binary systems in which a chemical compound is formed, the shape of the fusibility curves of chemical compounds that form solid solutions with their components, and the thermodynamic surfaces of one-component systems. He extended the theory of singular points on fusibility curves, developed a method of determining the speed of sound, and studied liquid crystals. A brilliant lecturer and demonstrator, he was the author of a number of textbooks.
