Prospects for the development of nanotechnology in Russia

In the middle of the last century physics was considered a very popular and fashionable science all over the world. The statistics of the growing number of physics faculties at universities, and of the rising number of applicants wishing to enter them, bore this out. After the collapse of the USSR, domestic science took a break from the high-technology race and fell somewhat behind in the development of modern technologies. In time, however, new tasks were set before science. And the development of computerisation, including the exchange of files, and the exchange of experience with foreign specialists in the field of high technology, gave an impetus to the development of modern science, and in particular to the development of nanotechnology.

Modern man and nanotechnology

It is hard to imagine the life of modern man without the achievements of scientific and technological progress. Today people associate a state of full and safe existence with:
  • a developed ecology, health care and education;
  • a high-speed internet;
  • good-quality mobile communications;
  • the availability of economical cars and other benefits of civilisation.
The main motto of the present day runs – “Science for the good of man!”. This slogan became the basis of a new epoch in the development of science and technology – the epoch of nanotechnology. The interest shown in nanotechnology is quite understandable: materials made with the use of high technology possess unique properties and large-scale prospects of practical application. Today research in the field of nanotechnology has priority for the state and stable financial support. Scientific institutes constantly carry out nanotechnology research. An exchange of experience with foreign specialists has been set up over the internet; in particular, by using a file-sharing service, scientists from all over the world can exchange scientific materials, and so on. New advanced technologies are gradually being introduced into industrial activity.

Despite the difficulties that exist, there are undoubtedly prospects for the development of nanotechnology in Russia.
