Sakurai, Jun John

Jun John Sakurai (31.01.1933-1982) — American theoretical physicist. Born in Tokyo. Graduated from Harvard University (1955). In 1958 — 70 he worked at the University of Chicago (a professor from 1964). From 1970 he was a professor at the University of California (Los Angeles). His research was in high-energy and elementary-particle physics, mathematical physics and quantum field theory. He constructed (1960) a general theory of vector compensating fields, on the basis of which he explained a number of important effects, for example the conversion of a proton and an antiproton in annihilation not into two but on average into five pions, and predicted new vector mesons. Independently of others he developed (1958) a universal theory of weak interactions.
