The spray

AIM OF THE EXPERIMENT: To find out how a spray works.
MATERIALS: a glass, scissors, two bendy straws.
Изображение
METHOD: Pour water into the glass.
Cut one straw just below the corrugated part and stand it upright in the glass so that the corrugation projects 1 cm above the water.
Place the second straw so that its end touches the top end of the straw standing in the water. Use the folds of the corrugation on the upright straw as a support.
Blow hard through the horizontal straw.
RESULTS: The water rises up the straw standing in the water and is sprayed into the air.
WHY? The faster the air moves, the greater the rarefaction it creates. And since the air from the horizontal straw moves over the top opening of the vertical straw, the pressure in that straw falls as well. The atmospheric pressure of the air in the room presses on the water in the glass, and the water rises up the straw, from where it is blown out as the finest droplets. The same thing happens when you squeeze the rubber bulb of a spray. Air from the bulb passes through the tube, the pressure in the tube falls, and because of this rarefaction of the air the cologne rises and is sprayed.
