Sam Bard Treiman (born 27.05.1925) is an American theoretical physicist and a member of the National Academy of Sciences (1972). He was born in Chicago. He graduated from the University of Chicago (1949). Since 1952 he has worked at Princeton University (from 1963 as professor).
His research was in the fields of quantum field theory, elementary particle physics, the formal theory of scattering and cosmic-ray physics. Together with M. Goldberger he initiated (1958) the application of dispersion relations to weak interactions (the Goldberger-Treiman relation), and with C. N. Yang he formulated (1962) the condition of applicability of the one-pion exchange model (the Treiman-Yang model). He proposed a method for determining the spin of sigma hyperons (the Treiman method).
