Gerhart Klaus Friedrich Lüders (born 25.02.1920) is a German theoretical physicist and a member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences. He was born in Hamburg. He graduated from the University of Hamburg (1947). In 1950-60 he worked at the M. Planck Institute of Physics (Göttingen, Munich). From 1960 he has been professor at the University of Göttingen.
His work concerned field theory, the symmetry properties of elementary particles, the theory of superconductivity and the study of the motion of particles in accelerators. In 1954 he obtained certain results concerning the CPT theorem, from which comes its other name, the Lüders — Pauli theorem. In 1957, together with B. Zumino, he derived from this theorem the consequence that the masses and the lifetimes of particles and antiparticles are equal.
