Bose, Satyendra Nath

Satyendra Nath Bose (1.1.1894-4.02.1974) was an Indian physicist. He was born in Calcutta. He graduated from the University of Calcutta (1915). In 1924—25 he worked in Paris with M. Skłodowska-Curie, in 1926—45 he was professor at Dacca University and in 1945—56 at the University of Calcutta. From 1958 he was National Professor of India. He was one of the creators (1924) of the quantum statistics of particles with integer spin, the so-called bosons (Bose — Einstein statistics). Applying his statistics to photons, he derived Planck's law for the thermal radiation of a blackbody. A Fellow of the Royal Society (1958).
