Rem Ivanovich Soloukhin ( born 19.11.1930) is a Soviet physicist, an academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR (1977) and a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1968). He was born in the town of Gus-Khrustalny. He graduated from Moscow University (1953). In 1953- 58 he worked at the Power Engineering Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences, in 1959-67 at the Institute of Hydrodynamics of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, in 1967 — 71 he was deputy director of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and in 1971 —77 director of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. From 1977 he has been director of the Institute of Heat and Mass Transfer of the Academy of Sciences of the Byelorussian SSR. He has also been professor at Novosibirsk (1965-77) and Byelorussian (from 1977) universities.
His work is in the fields of the physics of shock waves, high-temperature gas dynamics, plasma physics and quantum electronics. He studied detonation waves in gases, established the laws of ignition and of the kinetics of relaxation processes in shock waves, and obtained important results in the development and study of gas-dynamic laser systems and in the creation of methods and devices for the optical diagnostics of molecular gases, plasma and multiphase media.
Lenin Prize (1965).
