Vasily Vasilyevich Vladimirsky (born 2.08.1915) is a Soviet physicist and a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1962). He was born in Zheleznovodsk. He graduated from Moscow University (1938). From 1946 he has been deputy director of the Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics.
His research concerned accelerator technology, neutron spectroscopy, nuclear physics and the physics of elementary particles. He studied the neutron resonances of various fissile nuclei and carried out a number of important studies on the optical model of the nucleus and on the polarisation of particles. Together with A. L. Mints and E. G. Komar he took part in the development of cyclic accelerators with strong focusing, in particular of the proton synchrotrons of 7 and 70 billion eV. Independently of others he proposed a new quantum number, charm. Together with V. N. Andreev he predicted (1961) parity violation in the fission of nuclei.
Lenin Prize (1970). USSR State Prize (1953). Editor-in-chief of the journal “Nuclear Physics”.
